About the Project
Cultural Diversity in Food Policy was a collaborative effort between the Richmond Food Security Society, the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems at the UBC Farm, and the Vancouver Foundation. This project, which took place over the summer and fall of 2015 in Richmond, engaged in a community consultation with multicultural residents and Vancouver Coastal Health staff, exploring food security issues, programs, and services. The study examined community interest in how to most effectively enhance food security among this population and proposed future research areas and questions. The team’s methodology included focus groups with 46 Richmond residents and health agency staff, attempting to start collective conversations around predetermined topics. The study centered around sub-topics of food security including food availability and access, social and cultural concerns, health concerns, knowledge of food programs and services, and food production.
